Disability Studies Graduate (Disability Officer)

 

 

 

Job Title: Disability Officer

Salary: £25,000 (Funded by the BIG Lottery Fund)

Job Responsibilities and Duties

 

This Disability Officer will deal with all aspects of disability that affect Homeless People, from Freedom Passes to Social Exclusion, Housing, Education, Employment, Taxation, Fundraising, Research, Statistics and Family Relationships.

This Disability Officer will provide Disability Services to Homelessness charities that cannot afford to employ their own Disability Officer.

This Disability Officer will teach and educate, and thereby to change perceptions about disability, with the ultimate aim of causing social change.

 

Core activities

Create and lead a team of Disability Officers and workers in other organisations.

Set up and maintain Disability Services Systems in other organisations.

To give disabled people assistance in problem solving, communication and completing forms (e.g. Freedom Pass Applications, DLA, ESA, JSA, CSCS, tax, tribunals, employment, housing, education).

Compliance with Disability and Equality legislation.

Public speaking, lectures, seminars, training.

Maintenance of records in accordance with the Data Protection Act.

Writing reports of progress and keeping statistics of work done, targets met, and achievements attained.

Conduct research into the complex needs of disabled people who are homeless.

 

Responsibility for others

This Disability Officer will effect major life changes for very many disabled people. The job carries extremely high moral, ethical and legal responsibility.

This Disability Officer will create, manage and co-ordinate a team of volunteers who will assist in providing disability services.

 

Special requirements

Excellent communication skills are essential, both written and verbal.

This Disability Officer will travel in London on a daily basis, and occasionally out of London.

Good4you has a study scholarship program, and the candidate must join the program and pursue a research doctorate related to the complex needs of disabled people who are homeless.

 

Essential Qualifications

The candidate will have a masters degree in Disability Studies and a very thorough knowledge of Disability Theory, Social Exclusion Theory, Equality Rights and Theory, the Equality Act 2010, the Disability Discrimination Act 2005, and all other discrimination legislation, both UK and EU. A successful applicant must pass a check by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

 

Remuneration and Benefits

The Job offers a gross package of £25,000 pa. The package includes annual leave, sick leave, compassionate leave, maternity and paternity leave, study leave, on the job training, an employee education scheme, more than minimum wage, UIF contributions, PAYE, allowance and compensation for disability, Employer’s Liability Insurance, etc.

The Good4you Vademecum Project is an outreach project that helps disabled people at day centres for homeless people. The project helps them to access transport, housing, free solicitors and sheltered jobs with long term disability support. the project gets disabled people who are homeless off benefits and into work, which is what they want too.

Job Responsibilities and Duties

 

This Project Administrator will manage the administration of the Good4you Vademecum Project.

 

Core activities:

  1. Manage data in information technology systems and be responsible for compliance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
  2. Record keeping, statistics, and monitoring activities to create progress reports.
  3. The Project Administrator will arrange public speaking venues, lectures, seminars, training lectures.
  4. Recruit and train volunteers.
  5. Schedule tasks for volunteers to complete.
  6. Deliver Disability Services to homeless people at day centres for homeless people.
  7. Conduct research into the complex needs of disabled people who are homeless.
